Just Some Quick Thoughts...

- The Live 8 concerts from last weekend really opened some eyes and accomplished exactly what they set out to do - "raise awareness, not money". Now the world leaders arriving at the upcoming G8 meetings know that there is poverty in the world. I'm sure none of them had been informed up to this point. Thank God the Fresh Prince and the Pet Shop Boys were able to spread the word.

Of course, had you charged $1 a head for admission to these concerts you could have raised over $1 million. Or, had the artists all donated money instead of traveling cross-Continent to perform a free concert, you could have raised $1 million more.

Oh, well. At least the artists got nice, expensive gift baskets as a "thank you" for performing. And the awareness you all raised will feed starving families for at least three weeks.

- Baptist Minister Joe Simpson is now said to be urging his daughter Jessica to leave her husband of three years. He thinks her career is being held back by singer Nick Lachey. ::Shakes head in shame:: Joe, if I ever meet you in a dark alley...I'll tell you what a sad excuse for a father you really are.

The sad thing is, I don't think he'd care as long as he's making money.

- I've been a staunch supporter of President Bush since day one. That said, I'm going to say something that might shock some of you: He's not being nearly tough enough in Iraq. Mr. President, our men and women are being killed almost daily. What's the best way to put an end to this thing soon? Send in another 100,000 troops. Make it so that no Iraqi can even look out their window without seeing 25 of our guys loaded with M-16's, rocket launchers and an armored Hummer looking back at them. Keep the Apache's in a constant pattern overhead. Bomb the crap out of anything that doesn't belong.

Pound them until they quit or die.

- Coca-Cola C2 is 1/2 the sugar and carbs of regular Coke, but with all of the taste. In my effort to break my addiction from pop, this is my golden ticket. No cold-turkey for me. I take baby steps.

- Gas prices. Geez. Need I say more?

- Dear Larry Brown:
Stop all of this stupid delaying and let Dumars know what your plans are - today. You don't have to play this little game where you make your team tell you how much they love and need you. I think Detroit's desire to keep you is pretty obvious at this point. If it helps, here - we love you, LB. Come back for another year...please. We don't want any other. You're the man for us.

Now stop with the grade school drama.

- Did watching Dennis Rader, also known as the BTK Killer, in court last week make you want to throw up, and then jump through the TV and beat him into oblivion? That was exactly my reaction. It amazes me sometimes how cold and cruel the human heart can be. This is a sick man.

- I was sucked into an all-day marathon of Monk on the USA Network yesterday. I'd seen the show once or twice, but I was not aware how well done this show really is. It's equal parts hilarious and sad. Well worth the 60 minutes if you can spare them.

- My brother is working on a website for former students and faculty of the school we spent six years at in Denver back in the 80's. I started out pretty excited about finding out where old friends had gotten off to, but I'm slowly realizing that my history there consists mainly of playing with my GI Joe's, or swinging at recess. My "glory days" were much later, and I'm lucky to still be in touch with nealry all of my closest friends from high school and college.

- I hope everybody had a great 4th!
